Het TAS1R2 gen codeert zoete smaakreceptorcellen die zich op smaakpapillen en in de darmen bevinden. Deze receptoren spelen een belangrijke rol bij het detecteren van de zoetheid van suiker. Genetische variaties in de TAS1R2 gen kan je gevoeligheid om zoetheid waar te nemen voorspellen, wat op zijn beurt je suikerinname kan beïnvloeden.
